I originally got to know Timbuk2 through my ex. She had worked for a messenger company and had one of the older designs. I decided to purchase one for myself when I started going to school full time. I commute via public transportation, and the little canvas bag I normally use wasn't going to be enough to carry my school supplies and work gear plus a purse. I wanted a sturdy bag that would allow me to ditch my purse and would be comfortable enough for walking around town and carrying on the bus. I used the Timbuk2 website to pick a bag that would be the right size for my laptop. I don't carry my computer around every day, but I want to be comfortable when I do.

The Timbuk2 Commute 2.0 in medium was the correct size. It has more than enough pockets and compartments to carry all of my "purse" stuff and my school work. When the bag arrived, I was worried it was going to be too big for me to carry around comfortably on a daily basis. It turns out that the bag is just fine if not a tad on the larger side. I can carry two large notebooks, my textbooks, and a few other items in the main compartment. That still leaves room for my laptop (in the special laptop zipped area) and my other supplies. It can be a bit cumbersome on a crowded bus, but pretty much any bag can get in the way. The handle on the top is helpful for maneuvering and for grabbing the bag quickly. The fabric is definitely durable, and I am fairly certain it will last a while.

I'm going to have to get one (or two) of the add-ons for the strap. My cell phone does fit in the interior pocket, but that isn't particularly useful if I want to listen to music on it. My biggest concern is that the bag doesn't seem very secure from people who want to grab your stuff. The way the flap sits, it would be easy for someone to stick their hand in the side and pull things out of the pockets. If I end up taking the bag on a trip, I will be sure to stash my wallet somewhere else. The other issue is that the bag can be a bit off-balanced. I'm getting better at adjusting it, and I think it has something to do with the way the bag is constructed.

Overall, the Timbuk2 Commute 2.0 in medium is a good bag all around. I may have to downgrade to a smaller bag when I'm out of school and don't have as much to carry. For the meantime, it definitely meets my needs.

The medium size was big enough for my 13 or 15" laptop and for a full-sized SLR and lens. I use a neoprene sleeve for my Mac Book Air 13" laptop, for added protection, and it fits into the laptop section. Going through the security line at the airport is much easier with the fold-out section.
Very much impressed with the design and workmanship. Only reservation is about the noise the Velcro closure makes in a quiet room.

No matter how hard I searched online, including on Flickr, I could not find any review or note that stated if the Small fit the Macbook Pro. The Timbuk2 website says it does but most review stated the Medium just fit it so I decided to try for myself as I wanted to get the smallest size possible. (I hate oversized bags). It fits perfectly! Its a little snug at first but after 2 days it seems to have relaxed a little and I am very happy with the fit and overall size compared to the medium which I also tried.
